The border is just a few hours away, just about to cross into Juarez , Mexico . Plan to spend a few hours meeting  the dogs in foster that are awaiting rescue in April and hope to also pick a few more from the animal control center there where we implement a  humane euthanasia program. Then heading south a touch further via caravan to a spay camp in Chihuahua for the weekend. Quick weekend trip wherein each moment is packed with activity.

This work, south of the border, is always an emotional zigzag. A few paces towards exhilaration staring into the eyes of each rescue dog–> slight jaunt towards despair at animal control gazing upon the faces of those animals that we can’t save–>back in the realm of hope with each sterilization accomplished at the clinic–> firm tug back towards sorrow with each emaciated stray we pass on the road.

As always, I’ll attempt to maintain my focus on the horizon, where our goals to help animals are always in sight and the programs by which we are doing so pave the way onward.
Every animal I am able to help makes every movement this journey requires– be it geographic or emotional — absolutely worthwhile.

  I love this work and all that it entails – the ups, the downs, and the zigzags in between.
