At Compassion Without Borders, our mission is to create brighter futures for animals—and the people who love them—on both sides of the border. We remove barriers to veterinary care and provide lifesaving rescue services in communities where need is high and resources are scarce. Guided by the belief that no animal is without hope, we work collaboratively to build a more compassionate and equitable world for animals and people alike.

Compassion finds a way
Since 2001 Compassion Without Borders has found a way to break barriers and bring brighter futures to at-risk animals. Whether it’s creating access to care, bringing critical services directly to the communities who need them most, or direct rescue, Compassion ALWAYS finds a way.
Our Impact
We bring brighter futures to animals in need on both sides of the border. Through our lifesaving programs, we provide essential veterinary care, rescue animals from dire conditions, and take on complex medical cases to ensure that every dog has a chance at a healthy, happy life.
Each year, we:
- Provide critical, lifesaving care to 10,000 at-risk animals living in severely under-resourced areas in both Mexico and California.
- Rescue, rehabilitate and rehome hundreds of animals from desperate situations.
- Deliver low-cost veterinary care, including lifesaving vaccinations and spay/neuter, to over 8,500 animals on both sides of the border.
- Partner with U.S. shelters to take on complex medical cases, ensuring those animals receive the care they need and find loving homes.

Our Programs
Compassion Knows no Borders
At Compassion Without Borders, we address the root causes of animal homelessness and suffering through targeted programs in both Mexico and the U.S. The foundation of our mission is built on four key pillars of animal welfare: rescue, rehabilitation, access to care, and spay/neuter services.
Rescue
U.S. - We partner with shelters throughout California to take in the most at-risk animals and ease the burden on overcrowded shelters. We prioritize medical cases, making sure that animals with treatable health conditions have the opportunity to live long, happy lives.
Mexico - Our rescue team brings sick, injured, neglected and at-risk dogs into our care directly off the streets. Once in our care, dogs begin their recovery journey at our Home for Hope where we have a fully staffed veterinary care team to support them as they heal.
Spay/Neuter
Mexico - Our free, high-volume, high-quality clinic sterilizes more than 5,000 animals annually, addressing the root cause of animal homelessness.
Access to Care
U.S. - We offer affordable monthly veterinary wellness clinics out of our mobile unit, The Esperanza Truck, bringing care directly to the communities who need it most. Staffed by bilingual medical professionals, these low-cost, inclusive clinics break language, socioeconomic, and geographic barriers to ensure that all families have access to the care their animals need to thrive.
Mexico - At our Home for Hope in Puerto Peñasco, Mexico, we provide veterinary services free of cost to the community five days a week. We also bring mobile veterinary clinics directly to the communities who need it most, serving pets whose families face socioeconomic and geographic barriers.
Rescue
