Our U.S. programs focus on providing care where it is most needed. We work with other California shelters to reduce overcrowding and provide necessary care to special medical cases. Our U.S. programs also focus on creating equitable access to care by bringing veterinary services to under-resourced communities so that animals can stay with the families that love them.
We partner with other shelters throughout the state to reduce overcrowding by bringing hard-to-adopt animals into our care. We prioritize animals with complex medical needs. Having an in-house veterinary team enables us to provide shortterm and longterm care to these animals. Many of the medical cases we take on are young dogs with healthy long, healthy lives ahead of them post treatment. We also provide crisis relief for shelters across the state.
Some of our partners include Fresno Humane, Tulare Animal Services, Sonoma County Animal Services, and North Bay Animal Services.
We provide monthly low-cost, subsidized Spay/Neuter Clinics for pets in our community to address one of the root causes of animal homelessness. Access to this basic service plays a key role in reducing the number of animals that are abandoned or surrendered to shelters.
Our low-cost wellness clinics and mobile unit, The Esperanza Truck, bring compassionate veterinary care directly to underserved communities. We believe that financial hardship or language barriers should never be a reason a family has to surrender a beloved pet. Staffed by bilingual professionals, our clinics offer services like vaccinations, flea control, deworming, microchips, and ID tags. By keeping pets healthy and at home with the people who love them, we help reduce shelter intake and strengthen the human-animal bond.
Muttopia is a beautiful rescue facility located on 3.5 acres in Santa Rosa, CA. It offers sanctuary to rescue animals as they recover both emotionally and medically from their past circumstances. Dogs have access to five open fields on the property where they can run, play, and just be dogs. Our dedicated team of volunteers also oversee weekly playgroups and "out and abouts" to help dogs develop and strengthen their social skills.
Every animal at our shelter receives a comprehensive medical intake from our on-site veterinary staff to ensure they are healthy before becoming available for adoption. Once medically cleared, our behavior and training team works closely with each dog to ensure they have the skills they need to succeed in a home. For dogs who have experienced significant trauma, our team collaborates with behavior experts to create individualized plans and provide the extra support they need to thrive.
